Thousand Hills Cattle Ranch

Barnesville, Georgia

Thousand Hills Cattle Ranch is a Georgia beef cattle ranch that supplies local beef to local people. The cattle are custom raised and rotated through healthy pastures, and the finished cattle are processed and dry aged to make what the ranch calls a true craft product.

The ranch raises cattle the way it was done in the early years of American cattle ranching, before the industry industrialized. Cattle are pasture raised and pasture finished on native grasses and legumes, with a free choice supplement of grains, vitamins and minerals to balance the forage, so the animals choose what they eat. Today’s knowledge of genetics, nutrition and health management is combined with regenerative practice and old fashioned animal husbandry. Ivan Minks puts his promise plainly: he knows each animal, manages each animal, and inspects each one before processing.

The name comes from Psalm 50, and the cattle on a thousand hills. Animals for the table are harvested at about 30 months at a local, family run, organic certified abattoir and hung to age for two weeks. The ranch store carries the beef alongside chicken, pork, eggs and seafood sourced from named local producers.
